The Wonderful Counsellor has Complete Truth

Wisdom is essential but coupled with that is truth. One needs to know what is right and what is wrong. There was a false counselor in the Garden of Eden that gave advice that Eve wanted to hear, but it was a lie. Satan is still using many counsellors to promote lies.

There is one source of complete truth, and it comes in Christ. Never be afraid of truth. There may be many things we do not understand and some things we just don’t interpret correctly. When Jesus stood before Pilate in John 18:37-38 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." "What is truth?" Pilate asked”.

Jesus says 79 times “I tell you the truth” in the four gospels. He said that because so many people were telling things that were not truth. They may not have been lies that were intentional, but what they were saying or teaching was not correct to the rule or guidelines of revealed truth by God.

When meeting with His disciples before going to the cross Jesus made this marvelous statement, “I am the way the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me.” We can form all types of ideas as to how one is made right with God, but there is only One who came to die for our sins. The Bible says clearly 2 Thess, 2:12 “so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” Have you believed in the One who is called Truth?

A good counselor does not spare us from the problems or difficulties of life but prepares us to face them squarely and honestly. He does not share what we want to hear, but what we need to hear. Bob Brunko said, “I think more often than not the counsel of Christ is rejected not because it is felt to be untrue, but because it is too painful to face, too demanding to do and we would sooner be comfortable than grow up.”

We live in a society where lots of truth is ignored. Even if the government outlawed the truth, it changes nothing! It will be what God says it will be, for the Bible is the only book that has stood the test of time for changing people’s lives. The 10 commandments are just as relevant today as they were when the Lord gave them from Mount Sinai.

The counselor of truth is the Holy Spirit from Jesus, as we marvel and wonder at this mystery of the Trinity. What a delight to have Christ in us and communication a prayer away for those who are His children by faith and clearly, an important aspect of the Spirit's truth-bearing work is found in the inspired Scripture.

Many today will say truth is subjective when it comes to religious things. It is impossible and indeed even arrogant to say you have truth. We all have a little bit of truth. People are offended when we say Jesus is the absolute truth.

Friends, the Christian message is not our truth, but the divine gift to the world in the person of Jesus so that we might be saved and walk in His ways.

Application:  Meditate on God's truth today.

Prayer:  Father God, thank you for sending Your Son in the person of Jesus Christ, that we might be saved and reign with You forever.  Holy Spirit, feed my mind throughout this day with this marvelous truth.
